I applied through Office Parrots. I followed up on my application after a week. I received an email in reply, asking to schedule an interview session. 

 

The interview was later postponed for few days, as the employer had some other urgent appointments. Finally, I attended the interview at a later date. Although the interview was held at the office, it was more in an informal setting. 

 

The employer was very friendly, and asked just few basic questions to understand my personality and asked to share some of my experiences based on my CV and certificates. He also answered some of the questions which I directed at him during the interview. 

 

It was more like a friendly conversation, sharing experiences. I joined the firm two weeks later, to start my internship. Meanwhile, the employer had asked me to do an online personality test, just to be sure that he has understood my personality well.

I applied online through Office Parrots.

 

Fast response from Office Parrots to follow up with the interested applicant. Effective communication through email; as soon as cover letter and CV were submitted, Office Parrots made confirmation that the firm had received the application. The date of interview session was informed immediately in the next morning after sending the application.

 

The interviewer asked in details in regards to education, qualifications, experience and the purpose to apply internship. He made some commentaries and necessary adjustments that need to be made in CV. There were mistakes but he was very supportive and advised that as a learning process. He explained in details of what the intern will do and also asked some questions that related to basic legal knowledge (i.e case and section/provision). Allowance is provided as well by the firm. He introduced his colleague to me too. They were also concerned about the safety and mode of transportation of the intern and allowed me o leave 1 hour early from the office since I commute by public transport. They are personally very kind, friendly and down-to-earth individuals.

Process

I came to know about this internship offer application through Office Parrots and I applied through them. Office Parrots were very efficient in assisting me and taught me what has to be submitted (i.e.: CV and cover letter). My submissions were later forwarded by Office Parrots to the firm. Within two days, I was asked to be interviewed the following week.

During my interview session, I was asked about my results and qualifications in detail. The boss also went through my CV thoroughly and asked to explain my previous professional experiences and my interests towards sports.

Half way, he told me to list down my strengths and weaknesses and give reasons to it. Plus, he asked what have I achieved that I thought to be most gratifying throughout my previous internships.

I would say overall, it was more like a get-to-know interviewing session. Nothing technical, friendly and approachable boss (he told me his previous experiences too). He even taught me ways to improve my CV and I thought this is a major plus point! Also, I was further briefed on an intern's job scope.

Answer : During my final year, I did take up Commercial Contracts and Consumer Protection and really enjoyed studying it too. I took up this two subjects to get a more holistic view.

I applied through OfficeParrots and was contacted by OfficeParrots about an hour after I sent in my application. An interview was arranged the day after.

 

The interview was conducted by one of the partners and it was rather casual. No legal questions were asked, more like get-to-know kind of interview. It was a pleasant interview session , last about 2 hours. The partner was very kind and helpful. Offer was made the day after.

 

The firm is pretty new and quite a small set up but growing fast as the partners seem to have big vision about the firm's future.

Review:

Despite the law firm being relatively small sized, the type of work that interns were tasked with gave good exposure and insights into how the law works in practice. My learning curve in this firm was steep as I was exposed to all kinds of work from administrative to legal work which required me to be on my toes at all times.

 

Interns will be mainly exposed to two areas of law; Civil Litigation and Conveyancing. At the end of the internship, interns will generally have an inclination towards one area which they think suits them more. This greatly helped in charting their career paths. The firm was also managed by young partners who practiced an open door policy whereby they were willing and patient in guiding interns. Interns were afforded decent work life balance and partners were flexible in accommodating needs of staffs when required.

 

Finally, the firm promotes a friendly and close-knit working culture. Doing a two-month internship in MPG was definitely a beneficial and enhancing experience personally.

I applied through OfficeParrots.com after learning about a vacancy from the website in Q4 2017. I did not get any reply/calls for interview until almost 2 months later.

 

In Q1 2018, I went for an interview with one of the partners. The interview lasted for almost 2 hours and it was seamless and smooth - I knew what was expected of me, the nature of the matters handled by the firm, the culture of the firm and the firm's goals in moving forward. By the end of the interview I was offered the position, but was given some time to consider before replying.

 

Overall the interview was a pleasant experience but I decided to decline the offer.

As I was unable to give a specific answer in terms of what I can do, as it would require sacrifices and understanding from my side as well as from my (prospective) employer's side. I explained the arrangement that I have with my current employer, which had not affected my performance at all.

The interview was arranged fast enough in a few days times. The experience was, however not as pleasant. The partner who interviewed me was, in my opinion, rather arrogant and unwelcoming. The 20 odd minutes of interview was just going on about how to write a CV and less of getting to actually know you. I did not get a reply from the multiple emails following up on my application.

The interview was conducted in a friendly environment by Mr. Azri, one of the Partners of the firm.

 

Questions asked during the interview were:

1. What is your strength and weaknesses?

Strength: I am a logical thinking person

Weakness: I need to polish more on my English

 

2. How long will you stay with the firm?

Tentatively 2 months until I obtain my results

 

He viewed my transcript and asked me what I thought about the outcome of the exam. I said hopefully I can pass and did not write something fundamentally wrong during the exam.

 

However, in view of the location and traffic during peak hours, I decided not to take up the offer.
